Barlborough Medical Practice was formed in 1993, and has seen a steady growth in practice list size from its opening. There are 2 full time GP principles, Dr Andrew Palmer MBChB (Leicester1984), DRCOG, DFFP, MRCGP, and Dr. Gemma Lovelock MBChB, MRCGP Qualified at the University of Liverpool in 2012.
(They hold a contract with NHS England to provide personal medical services)
We have three salaried GP’s,
Dr Olayinka Olubowale (MBBS) (University of Ibadan 1997) DRCOG, DFSRH, MRCGP, Dr Ruth Haywood MBBS (University of Newcastle Upon Tyne 2010) MRCGP, DCH, PGCME, and Dr Lee Haywood MBBS (University of Newcastle Upon Tyne 2011) MRCGP & Dr Gardner is a Locum GP at Barlborough Medical Practice.
The Practice is a semi rural
dispensing practice run from 2 sites, a main surgery at Barlborough, and a branch at Renishaw.
The Renishaw building is shared with another practice, our reception can be found through the main entrance and down the first corridor on the left. The practice area includes Barlborough, Renishaw, Clowne, Eckington, Killamarsh, Spinkhill, Mastin Moor, Staveley, Marsh Lane, Harthill, Whitwell, Creswell, Elmton, Mosborough, Halfway, Norbriggs and Stanfree.
We are dedicated to offering the best level of Primary care we can for our patients. Systems are in place to make our service run as efficiently as possible. At busy times however, or if consultations are running over, your wait may be longer than expected.
Please be patient with us at such times, we are doing our best! We welcome patient views on the service we provide. If you wish to contact us regarding any specific issues, including complaints please write to Adam Lovelock, the Practice Manager.
We have a complaints procedure available from reception and on our website.
We offer a wide range of medical services atboth branches including Child Health, contraceptive services, flu clinics, minor surgery including cryotherapy, maternity medical services, health visitor baby clinics and counselling. We also undertake a regular surveillance of chronic illness and provide anticoagulation monitoring. We are a dispensing practice, meaning that we are able to provide medications directly to any of our patients who live more than a mile from a Chemist.
When ordering prescriptions please allow 48 hours before collection.

Patients rights & responsibilities
You have the right to expect a high standard of medical care from our practice and we will try at all times to provide the very best care possible within the resources available.
In order to assist us in this we require that you take full responsibility for ensuring that you do not abuse the service. For example, it is your responsibility for ensuring that you keep medical appointments and follow the medical advice given.
Very occasionally a practice/patient relationship breaks down completely, in this situation the patient may choose to register with a different practice. The practice also has the right to remove that patient from their list. The patient would be given a specific reason for the removal, and it would only occur after a previous warning had failed to remedy the situation.
Violent Patient Zero Tolerance
The NHS operates a zero tolerance policy with regard to violence and abuse and the practice has the right to remove violent patients from the list with immediate effect in order to safeguard practice staff, patients and other persons. Violence in this context includes actual or threatened physical violence or verbal abuse which leads to fear for a persons safety. In this situation we are obliged to notify the patient in writing of their removal from the list and record in the patients medical records the fact of the removal and circumstances leading to it. The NHS Area Team is then responsible for providing further medical care for such patients.
